PsilonJust when you thought you might have found the appropriate pigeonhole for Border Community, along comes something a little different: a minimal-rave anthem straight out of Switzerland entitled 'Big City'. The old skool rave influences, Swiss connection and excellent name (Lazy Fat People, anyone?) may have you wondering for a second, but we assure you that this is not a side project of BC's daftest duo The MFA.
The Lazy Fat People are in actual fact one Mirko Loko and Raphael Ripperton, a pair of techno activists hailing from Switzerland's own little musical hotbed of Laussane. The duo possess an impeccable set of Djing credentials, with a staggering 22 years experience between them (and Mirko is still just 26!). Both are now regulars at Laussane's excellent Loft club, where Mirko is also in charge of the club's forward thinking booking policy. Ripperton meanwhile may already be familiar to you as Crosstown Rebels' Rayon, from the limited RebelOne release of 'The Panther'. Teamed together as the Lazy Fat People, the double act create a sound which is at the same time very now and very refreshing. With their truly artful arrangment of strong melodic hooks, they posess an instinctive feel for what will sound 'just right', with never a part too many or too few straying into the finished mix. The beauty of future minimal-rave anthem 'Big City' surely lies in its effortless simplicity, keeping the dancefloor hooked with a series of subtle rises and falls, with Mirko focussing on the synths and Ripperton setting to work on the beats for their respective DJ tools. On the flip you'll find the deadly DJ weapon of 'Dark Water', piling on those edits that we know you are as much of a sucker for as we are. A pair of accomplished Djs who are already developing a distinctive sound, in stark contrast to their 'Lazy' moniker the duo are already stacking up quite a store of productions just waiting for the right home. With the Lazy Fat People you really are getting the full package.
